Mark Grosz grew up in Detroit and graduated with a degree in accounting. A devoted Detroit Red Wing fan, hockey is life.
Chef de cuisine and owner Mark Grosz worked under the tutelage of renowned chef Jean Banchet of the world famous Le Francais in Wheeling, Illinois. He further refined his skills in France and Hong Kong, and has served as head chef and culinary impresario at a variety of restaurants and private clubs in Illinois and Michigan.
In 1989 Mark opened Oceanique in its present-day Evanston location, within a charming 1920's Spanish-style building. Mark, with his wife Renee as general manager and son Philippe as Sommelier / Wine Director, continues to offer discerning diners some of the most creative and exquisite seafood and prime meat dishes prepared in the French tradition, with a modern unique American twist. It is our very distinct pleasure to offer you some of the finest wines in the world. Oceanique has won Wine Spectator Magazine’s coveted "Award of Excellence" every year since 1994. This year we were once again awarded “Best of Award of Excellence” and we are now recognized as having one of the 750 best wine lists in the world. Even with the recent acclaim you’ll find the character of the wine service at Oceanique to be erudite, yet refreshingly down to earth.We hope you will also be impressed by the selection and variety we offer, including our outstanding collection of rare Champagne, Burgundy and Bordeaux. Our cellar not only holds some 800 selections at a precise 57° and 64% humidity, it strives to offer something special for every dish, every person, and every occasion. Every month, Oceanique prepares a special fixed-price wine dinner featuring a handful of exquisitely chosen wines, usually from the same producer, region, or distributor.
